Orleans, the legendary rock band and perennial Woodstock favorites, has announced its return to Opus 40 on Saturday, August 30th. Resurrecting a tradition that began over 2 decades ago, Orleans and friends will once again be making music on the bluestone sculpture built by famed artist Harvey Fite. For close to 20 years this annual Labor Day weekend event played to sell-out crowds.

Now, I was sure that I was aware of pretty much all there is of Orleans video footage — especially older stuff, ’cause there just isn’t that much of it. Most of what’s usable had been incorporated into the History of Orleans DVD produced by Greg Rike at GRP Studios in Altamonte, FL back in 2011. But, being curious as to what he might have found from 1976, I went looking.

You know … when Murphy’s Law is in full swing and just about everything that CAN go wrong DOES go wrong? Well, Orleans recently had that experience … but managed to rise above it.

This is traditionally a day for family and friends to get together, whether or not they do so at any other time of the year. Sometimes relationships are strained, dysfunctional, uncomfortable … and, as adults moving into (hopefully) our wiser years, maybe some of us have gotten better at (if not mastered) the art of not only surviving the Holidays, but actually enjoying them. What a concept!

Third week out, the Sail Rock Tour blows into Fortune Bay Casino in Tower, MN…. with a couple of subtractions and a nice addition! On the road again … well, at least on the weekends, until we hit our stride in August.
